Survivor Gabon Probst Preview Episode 10

November 18th, 2008

The promo seems to indicate that Randy thinks that Bob will give him the Immunity Idol that he found on Exile Island, so Randy proceeds to make everyone angry to motivate them to vote for him while he votes who he wants out. That’s all fine, except the Idol that Bob has is one that he made. It’s not real.

What questions should I ask Randy on Friday when I interview him?

Jeff Probst says the ‘good versus evil’ theme is in full force in this week’s episode of Survivor. Corrine and Sugar are battling it out. Corrine is biting her tongue a lot which makes her miserable. There’s a great moment during the Survivor auction where Randy says, “I left the auction broke, full, half-drunk and pissed off so I’m gonna burn this house down” Bob’s visit to Exile Island pays off for “at least one person in this game” and it makes for a very “fun and somewhat ugly” Tribal Council.

Catch the 10th episode of “Survivor: Gabon — Earth’s Last Eden” Thursday at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Ex-’Survivor’ Ace Gordon arrested outside Naples lounge | news-press.com

November 18th, 2008

According to the owner, he DID NOT hit a woman. He slapped the guy she was with. I feel a little better about that, but not much. He still got in the deputies face. That’s one thing I learned in High School. Never push someone who carries a gun and can put you in jail.

Ace G. Gordon was charged with disorderly intoxication, obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest without violence.

Ace G. Gordon was charged with disorderly intoxication, obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest without violence.

Ace Gordon, 28-year-old cocky recent castoff on the reality TV show “Survivor: Gabon,” faces misdemeanor charges after Collier County deputies say he caused a disruption at an east Naples lounge early Sunday.

Ace G. Gordon was charged with disorderly intoxication, obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest without violence.

Gordon could not be reached for comment.

Reports say deputies saw the security staff at Sway Lounge, 2858 U.S. 41 E, escorting Gordon out of the establishment.

Staff members told deputies Gordon struck a woman in the bar before being asked to leave, according to a Collier County Sheriff’s Office report.

But Sway owner Assaf Basher said that isn’t exactly how it happened.

“He had an incident with a girl and the guy she was with said something and then he (Gordon) slapped him in the face,” Basher said.

Basher explained that Gordon was then told to leave and he refused.

Sway security then escorted Gordon - whom many viewed as a villain on “Survivor” - outside where he was met by deputies.

As deputies began talking with Gordon, he then allegedly pushed a deputy, Basher said.

According to the sheriff’s office report, Gordon reached toward a deputy’s face and had to be taken to the ground to be handcuffed.

While en route to the Collier County Jail, Gordon repeatedly told deputies he was famous.

“He told police, ‘I’m from ‘Survivor.” But they said, ‘It doesn’t matter if you’re from ‘Survivor’ or the president of the United States - you can’t go around hitting people’,” Basher said.

“We usually have a very good crowd,” Basher added. “I can’t remember the last time we had a fight.”

Gordon was released later Sunday. He had no prior arrests.

Five Things You May Not Know About Survivor - edubook.com

November 18th, 2008
Five Things You May Not Know About Survivor By Mark in Television

Since it burst on the scene in the United States in 2000, Survivor has been one of the more popular television shows on the air. The show has also been largely credited with starting the popularity and emphasis on reality television. Two of the most popular things about Survivor are the fact that viewers can identify with the real people that are featured as the stars of the show, and that many people tune in just to see the incredible shooting locations that are chosen for each season. Many of the “regular people” chosen to be on the show have gone on to modest levels of fame outside of the series. While it may indeed be one of the most popular television shows of all time, while it may be a show that everyone thinks they know everything about, here are 5 things you may not know about the reality television show Survivor.

1. In the 10th season of the show, Survivor: Palau featured a first. This was the first time that one tribe was able to win every immunity challenge, thus when it was time for the usual merging of the tribes there was no group to merge with so the remaining Ulong tribe member was just absorbed into the Koror tribe. This makes season 10 as the only Survivor season in which there was no merger.

2. Survivor: Fiji was the first time that there were an odd number of contestants on the show. The reason for this is that one player backed out of the show the night before the first day of the game was to start and the producers had no time to alert and bring in a replacement player.
3. While the winner of the show receives prize money in the amount of $1 million dollars, all of the other contestants also receive a specified amount of money that varies regarding how long they last in the game. Each player also receives $10,000 to appear on the reunion show at the end of the season.

4. Contestants of the American version of Survivor are not only required to follow the laws of the country that the show takes place in, but also they are required to follow all American laws even though they are outside of the country.

5. Survivor is a fixture of CBS’s Thursday night primetime television schedule, few remember that the first season of Survivor aired on Wednesday nights.

While no longer having the popularity that it once had, Survivor continues to be one of the most popular shows on television. From the initial episode where the contestants are first introduced to their new home, to the final live episode where host Jeff Probst reveals the winner, Survivor has mastered the ability to weave fascinating story lines with the strategy of a game. The Survivor formula, though not as crisp and new as it once was, appears to be a formula that will continue to make successful television for many years to come.

The 29 year old lawyer was thrilled by his time in Africa, shared his thoughts on the game, and offered some surprising information

Charlie gave a conference call Exit Interview last Friday, which I got to be a part of. There was definitely some surprising information and the whole interview is worth reading or listening to. Fans of Reality TV got the interview posted first and I’ve been busy with another project, so I’ll point you to their post. Here’s the first part of it and a link to their site.

Survivor Gabon: Interview with Charlie - “It’s a recipe for disaster.” - Fans Of Reality TV

On Friday we spoke with Charlie Herschel as part of a conference call interview. The recently eliminated Survivor contestant proved to be gracious and insightful. The 29 year old lawyer and marathoner from New York City was thrilled by his time in Africa, shared his thoughts on the game, and offered some surprising information.

Is Kenny really the one holding the power at this point?

I’m not sure who in that alliance is holding the power. It’s hard for me to tell as a player because I played with Kenny for three hours by the time I got voted out. We merged that day so I really had no insight into his and Crystal’s game besides what Matty and Sugar told us. I clearly think there’s a clear divide between the five people in Kenny’s alliance and then the three people left from my alliance. So, I think that fivesome’s holding the power. Where the chips fall, who knows?

So what had Sugar shared with you up to that point?

In what way?

We didn’t want to be too transparent in our strategy

We didn’t want to be too transparent in our strategy

In how that tribe was operating? How that whole alliance was coming together?

We didn’t want to be too transparent in our strategy so we were never like tell us the strategy, give us a power point presentation on exactly where everything stands. So we kind of like just asked what do you think of blah blah. And it was clear that she had very good things to say about everyone in that tribe. I think she found and so did Matty Crystal overwhelming and overpowering. I think Matty really likes Susie. We knew that. Matty loved Kenny. You knew he was really close to Kenny. He’d always talk about the walks they’d go on so Matty seemed kind of like unmoveable and Sugar seemed like a little more easily swayed because she’d been on Exile so much she didn’t develop as strong of relationships but she didn’t know what had happened with the whole voting fiascos of their last tribals so we were not clued in on any of that.

Did you and Corinne feel that it was going to be pretty easy to sway Sugar up ‘til last night?

No. We knew it was an uphill battle. Sugar hated Randy. Hated Randy! And, I tried to knock sense into Randy and Corinne, and I said we can’t be mean to Sugar. My strategy all along individually was to not be mean to people because you never know when you needed them but they didn’t play that way and I tried to make them play that way because that was affecting my game at a certain point. And, Randy never really took note of that strategy but Corinne really did try to become girly friends with Sugar. They’d go to the stream. They talked. They gossiped a lot. I think Sugar bought that they were becoming a little bit friends but in no way was she ever going to trust Randy and she hated Randy and she never really trusted or liked a lot of the stuff Corinne said. We thought maybe we had a chance with Bob if we could use Bob to get Sugar on our side because she recently lost her father, Bob was kind of a father figure for her, Bob was in our alliance so I tried desperately in those three hours to enlist Bob to convince Sugar to stay with us because I knew the three of us just yap, yap, yapping wasn’t gonna make much movement but I thought Bob was our golden ticket.

The thing that I saw in Randy was intelligence

The thing that I saw in Randy out there was intelligence

Your personal experience with Randy, what did you think of him and what did Corinne say about him when he wasn’t around?

Randy’s a great guy. He’s interesting. His home life is very unique. He’s a loner. Not a very emotional person so being in a group like this is a new experience for him but the thing that I saw in Randy which I didn’t see in a lot of people out there was intelligence. I was really searching hard for that in the people I was aligned with because I wanted to be aligned with someone who if they had to make a move on my behalf. If they had to do something strategic for the alliance I want to be able to trust that that was a logically sound thing to do. If I were aligned with Sugar, I just wouldn’t have been able to put that trust in her. I don’t think that Ace should have put that trust in her. And, Randy, whether you like or hate him, whether you find his abrasive nature nice or not he’s an intelligent guy and I could trust the things he said to a certain degree unless he got really hot-headed. So that’s where I sit with Randy. I was very frustrated a lot of times when he did get hot-headed but at the same time I was like maybe this will be to my advantage if we get really to the end of it and he’s really alienated everyone.

‘Survivor: Gabon’ Aftergasm - The Truth of the Matter -buddytv.com

You are either with Sugar or you're against her

‘Survivor: Gabon’ Aftergasm - The Truth of the Matter

Survivor fans, we are a splintered nation.  As evidenced by the reaction to last night’s excellent Survivor: Gabon episode, you are either with Sugar or you’re against her.  Perhaps “against her” is a harsh qualifier – personally, I don’t think she’s the dullest bulb in the world, but I also don’t believe Sugar is some kind of secret mastermind like some are purporting her to be.  Sugar, since the first episode, has struck me as a drama queen, someone who likes the camera and takes advantage of the moment when that camera is on her.  This whole “maybe she’s smarter than she looks” sentiment is misguided.  More appropriate is the “maybe she isn’t as terribly dumb as she sometimes carries herself.”  It’s not like Sugar had to concoct some sort of genius strategic plan last night.  She had to decide between two people to vote for and, even with that simple decision, she was conflicted until the last moment.

So, please, let’s stop this whole Sugar is a genius talk.  Her crying while voting, milking her screen time for all its worth, is kind of adorable in a “oh, the puppy wants attention” kind of way.  Sugar, the pawn that she is, will continue, for at least one more week, to be an important figure.  She can alternate back to the other alliance if she so chooses.  She knows Ken is a sneaky little dude whose ego is growing exponentially by the day.  The second he gets caught in one of his lies it opens the door for Sugar to rightfully switch allegiances.  If Sugar is truly smart, it might be a good decision to simply remain a swing vote for as long as she can.  Remember, she still has that immunity idol.  Sugar is in a good position.  Whether she remains there or not is completely up to her.

Jeff Probst blogs ‘Survivor: Gabon’ (episode 9) | PopWatch Blog | EW.com by Jeff Probst

No need to bury the lead. One of my favorite moments of the entire season happened about seven minutes into this episode. Corrine’s reaction to Marcus being voted out. It was almost as good as waiting for Santa to come.

First the Macaulay Culkin “hands to the face” reaction made famous in Home Alone and then the verbal response that revealed the rest of her truth: “I’m pissed. He didn’t deserve to leave the game.”

Which prompted Kenny’s very fair question, “Who does?”

This is why we are still on the air and why I still love hosting Survivor after 17 seasons. Human nature. It is nearly impossible to hide our true selves, especially in times of conflict.

“He didn’t deserve to leave the game.” Only seven words. But judging from Kenny’s clenched jaw reaction, those seven words might have just sealed Corrine’s fate. Charlie was less upset and less vocal, and you saw what happened to him. Gone.

I fully admit that it is sooooo easy for me to backseat drive. I’m not playing this game, living in the middle of Africa on nothing, my mind overloaded with strategy, wondering who I can trust, dealing with those annoying bug bites and having an obnoxious host up in my face all the time.

And hey, I’d be “pissed” too if they took out my ally. Marcus was good. Too good to let stay in the game. Corrine, Charlie, and Marcus had a real shot at going to the end and if so, Marcus wins hands down. He was that good. So I fully lay down and concede that I don’t think I could hack this game, and as I have said hundreds of time, I have the utmost respect for anybody who raises their hand to endure this thing called Survivor. Now that I’ve cleared my conscience…it’s time to get back to lipping off.

‘Survivor: Gabon’ recap: Playing with fire | Survivor | 1 | TV Recaps | EW.com By Dalton Ross

In the first individual immunity challenge for the merged team, Susie and Sugar surprise all by dominating, and there are more surprises in store for Corrine and Charlie at tribal council

HOT MAMA Susie, once targeted by her tribemates, surprised everyone by winning the fire challenge for immunity

HOT MAMA Susie, once targeted by her tribemates, surprised everyone by winning the fire challenge for immunity

Crystal: What is it that I did to Randy for Randy to be bashing Crystal so much at Kota camp?

Randy: Okay, you want a list?

Man, I had to go check a calendar after watching this last episode of Survivor: Gabon, because I could have sworn it was the Fourth of July judging by all the fireworks on display. Actually, it was more like a boxing match with plenty of punches to the gut. In this corner: an Olympic gold medalist in the sport of trash talking. She’s big, she’s bad (at least in challenges), and she can knock you over faster than a bowl of rice (well, maybe not rice). She’s known in these parts as the Tribal Council Terror. Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for CRRRRRRYYYYYSSSSSTALLLLLL COOOOOOX!!! And in the other corner: He’ll videotape your wedding, rub it in human feces, and make you eat it for dessert. His questionable temper is matched only by his questionable taste in tropical shirts. He’s the self-proclaimed king of Gabon. Ladies and gentlemen, a round of applause if you will for the ornery, the testy, the wild man of the wild, RRRRRRRAAAAAAANDYYYYYYY BAAAAAAAAILEEEEEEY!!!

B*tch!

B*tch!

I was getting all psyched for a tribal council beatdown of epic proportions, but then something somewhat uncomfortable happened: Randy started yelling at Crystal about how she and G.C. acted back at the original Fang. Fair enough; they were both pretty useless and moody. But then he threw this in: “You and your posse ran the tribe like it was a gang.” Whooooooa there, cowboy. Am I the only one who cringed when he said this? Maybe I’m at fault for being one of those oversensitive, bleeding heart, tree-hugging East Coast liberals that everyone loves to make fun of, but when I hear a white dude describing two black people as a “posse” and a “gang,” well, it just makes me wince. Let me be clear about something: I’m not labeling Randy a racist. Don’t know the guy well enough to come to any sort of conclusion about that. (I do know that in our pre-game interview he promised to be an equal opportunity offender, giving hell to both contestants and the host. Just watch him go!) Plus, I wasn’t there. Tribal council gets presented to us after it’s been through a chop shop of editing. Maybe he amended or clarified his statement. I have no idea, so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and just say that it was a…poor choice of words.

Crystal, surprisingly, did not fight back after that. I say surprisingly because while staying quiet is always the way to go in a situation like that, Crystal has never been one to exactly keep her anger in check. Neither has most of this cast, really. In fact, when you think about Michelle, Kelly, Crystal, G.C., Randy, and Corinne — this has been one of the angriest casts in history. Lighten up, people! It’s never raining there. It’s not 115 degrees as in many Survivor locations. There are barely any bugs. You didn’t really even have to build a shelter. Don’t you realize how easy you’ve had it?! Try one day in Guatemala and get back to me.
